Rescue workers and Japanese citizens have handed over millions of ‘lost’ cash to police, which they have found while carrying out their tasks in the mud-covered coastal areas in northeastern regions of the country that were devastated following the March 11 earthquake-cum-tsunami.Police and local governments are looking out for the owners of the assets, but survivors are urging them to use the money for reconstruction works till the owners were found.Under Japanese law, people who find money can keep it if the original owners do not come forward within the three-month custodial period. When people who find it give up their claim or fail to show up to receive it within two months after the expiry of the custodial period, ownership is automatically transferred to prefectural governments.
A magnitude 9.0 quake ravaged Japan Friday, shaking buildings in Tokyo for several minutes. Japanese officials confirm at least two thousand dead, with thousands more injured or missing. Within the same 24-hour period more than 150 aftershocks of magnitude greater than 4.5 occurred.
The Japanese tsunami has wiped out a large shipment of Infiniti and Nissan models that were going to be shipped to U.S. and Japanese showrooms. It was not clear if models sold at Infiniti Dealership Westborough were affected by the tsunami. At least 2,300 vehicles have been damaged with nearly 1,300 Infiniti M, EX, and FX models being damaged. These models were parked at a coastal landing point before the tsunami swept in. Westborough Infiniti and other Infiniti dealerships have large quantities of models in stock, so many dealerships will not be immediately affected by model shortages.
Dealers with a wider inventory such as AL Used Cars and others will also be less affected. However, it is unclear when shipments will resume for Nissan Toyota, and Honda, all three of which have had delays due to the tsunami or other logistical problems. There were pictures of the damage that showed hundreds of vehicles piled on each other and throw about by the tsunami waters. There were also some models that caught on fire. There were about 1,300 vehicles that were scheduled to be exported to the United States and most were Infiniti models. There were also some 370Z Nissan sports cars that were damaged.
